From Lovel Pratt, San Juan County Council

A Voluntary Stewardship Program Workshop will be held on Monday September 12, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the Key Bank Garden Room.

Recent legislation established the Voluntary Stewardship Program to address the protection of critical areas associated with agricultural activities while maintaining viable agricultural production.

Counties will have to choose by January 22, 2012 whether to opt into the Voluntary Stewardship Program or to protect critical areas associated with agricultural activities by way of the Critical Area Ordinance process outlined in the Growth Management Act

Eric Johnson, Executive Director of the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC), will present information and answer questions from workshop participants.
