||| FROM ELISE COPE for FRIENDS OF THE SAN JUANS |||

Friends of the San Juans invites you to help protect the Salish Sea’s marine ecosystem by learning how to identify and report European green crab molts (shed shells) on local beaches.

Once trained as a community science volunteer, you’ll assist WSU Extension and Washington Sea Grant in understanding and combating the growing threat posed by invasive European green crabs. These crabs are considered to be one of the world’s worst invasive species, posing serious risks to the health of Washington’s marine waters.

Community involvement is essential to expanding the reach of early detection efforts!

Friends of the San Juans will host hands-on Molt Search Training Workshops:

• June 11, 4:00–5:30 PM at East Sound Waterfront Park, Orcas Island
• June 18, 4:00–5:30 PM at Jackson Beach, San Juan Island

Join us to learn how to conduct a timed survey for crab molts and to report your findings using a mobile app. Your efforts will contribute directly to protecting local shorelines from this harmful invasive species.

Go to sanjuans.org/events to register—space is limited!

For more information about the upcoming training workshops contact Friends’ Community Science and Education Director, Jess Newley Jess@sanjuans.org.
