FEAST shows a must-see documentary film, “Queen of the Sun,”‘ Farm Education and Sustainability for Teens (FEAST) kicks off its 2011 year of classes with ” Queen of the Sun.” What are the bees telling us about our modern industrial life-style?  expertly explores this question and the role that honeybees play in maintaining earth’s fragile ecosystem. The film is part of a series of classes offered to teens as well as adults through The Funhouse this summer. Annual garden tour “Orcas in Bloom” Saturday & Sunday, June 25 & 26 from from 11 am to 5 p.m.  Beautiful woodlands,ornamental shrubs and perennials, a seaside garden, ponds, and 80 to 100 year old heirloom orchard trees are just some of the myriad of beautiful sights that can be seen at the six gardens this year..  Tickets are $20 and are available now at Darvill’s Book Store, Smith & Speed Mercantile, Driftwood Nursery, and at the Master Gardener’s booth at the Farmers Market. Tickets will also be available at Island Market or any garden on the day of the tour. The ticket includes a map and short description of the property. The gardens may be seen in any order. Randy Finley of Mount Baker Vineyards and Winery will be at The Wine Shop at Country Corner from 1 to 4 p.m. Randy is the owner of Mount Baker Vineyards, located in Everson, WA. He will be talking about his wine and winery while demonstrating several of his varieties.  Among the whites will be the Semi-Sauv blend, Chardonnay, and the new Oyster Blanc.  Reds include Sangiovese and Dolcetto. He has some truly unusual varieties and this will be a taste treat for everyone who attends. Call 376-6907.
