SORRY WE MISSED YOU

The British working class is once again the empathetic subject of Ken Loach’s SORRY WE MISSED YOU, an intimate family drama that exposes the dark side of the so-called “gig economy.”

Ricky, a former laborer, and his home-attendant wife Abby—who lost their home in the 2008 financial crash—are desperate to get out of their financial distress. When an opportunity comes up for Ricky to work as his own boss as a delivery driver, they sell their only asset, Abby’s car, to trade it in for a shiny new white van and the dream that Ricky can work his way up to someday owning his own delivery franchise.

But the couple find their lives are quickly pushed further to the edge by an unrelenting work schedule, a ruthless supervisor, and the needs of their two teenage children. Capturing the sacred moments that make a family, as well as the acts of desperation they need to undertake to make it through each day, this universal story is skillfully and indelibly told with unforgettable performances and a searing script by Loach’s long-time collaborator Paul Laverty.

We are pleased to share this critically acclaimed Cannes Film Festival film selection, “SORRY WE MISSED YOU.”  OIFF is grateful to Kino Lorber for providing us and other theaters with the opportunity to continue offering the cinematic experience to our devoted audiences on our island and the entire Orcas Island Film Festival community, even as our theaters remain temporarily closed.

The Sea View Theatre is an island treasure and has been dedicated to providing the movie-going experience for over 60 years.  It’s the oldest single family-owned business on Orcas Island and one of the very few mom and pop movie theaters that have survived in our region. We feel it’s fundamentally important to the health and well being of our small community to have a collective space to gather to experience films together.  Their margins are slim in the best of times so now more than ever they need our support!

Starting on Friday, April 3 you can buy a $12 ticket for this wonderful film to watch in the comfort of you home and you have five days to watch it.  Your purchase of this film will provide you and your household with a great film from one of the world’s master filmmakers and will help provide financial support for the Sea View Theatre to reopen their doors when these turbulent times are behind us.

The show must go on—and it will, thanks to you
