— from Kim Ihlenfeldt for Orcas Park and Rec —

The Scott Stamnes Memorial Skatepark at Buck Park is currently under scheduled major repairs. The project, which is estimated to take about three weeks, includes removal of the cracked surface, pouring new concrete, replacing coping along the edges, and applying a sealant on the park. This project will extend the life of the park for another 10+ years.

Volunteers are still needed and will have the opportunity to work alongside Grindline, a renowned skatepark design and construction company. Your time will greatly help us finish the project before the weather turns and accomplish a full repair within our limited budget.

The skatepark will remain closed for the duration of the project, with hopes to reopen sometime in mid-November.

If you would like to help, call Orcas Island Park and Recreation at (360) 376-7275, or stop by our office located in the northwest corner of the Funhouse Commons building or check in with park staff at the shed in Buck Park.
