— from John Steward for Maple Rock Farm CSA / FARMSHARE —
Farmer John here. I cannot believe Maple Rock Farm has been in business almost 20 years. Many people told me I was crazy when I moved to Orcas and bought a dilapidated property and founded Maple Rock Farm. Locally produced organic from a small farm is not common. A recent study from the University of California suggests that almost 80 percent of food sales involve large corporations.
From the start, our goal has been about community…. and making it better. We’ve always believed in doing well by doing good. If you’ve ever been to an event at Maple Rock, whether it’s been to a barn dance, a pizza night, a farm tour, a concert or play, a wedding or a fund raising party, hopefully we’ve touched your life in a positive way.
You help keep Maple Rock alive. You are the reason we can provide as much locally grown food to as many people in our community using sane and sustainable farming techniques. We are inspired by the fact you appreciate the work we do.
And the easiest way for you to participate is to join our CSA / Farmshare program by visiting us at www.maplerockfarm.co. It just takes a minute. You can also send a check directly to the farm at 845 Pinneo Rd. Eastsound, WA 98245. Your membership fees support the demanding early spring startup costs necessary to bring the many delicious products to market. Memberships start at $200. Most members usually spend about $400 to $500 with us in a season.
As a member, here are a few updates coming for 2019
- We have heard you. We will be planting even more of our famous salad greens of all types.
- As a special thank you to all of our members, We will host a special pizza night just for you as a thank you. We will set a date for that at a later date as we get going.
- We will also be offering gift Farm Share memberships. What a great gift for a wedding, birthday, anniversary present for your friends and or family. You may call me directly on my cell 360 622 6433.
Summer is just around the corner and we have already started planting. Most of our seed orders are placed and the greenhouses are filling up fast. We are hoping to be getting some ground worked up this week with the warm weather.
We are looking forward to a bountiful year! We need your help to do it. Please sign up or renew to help us move forward AND if you have friends or family who may be interested, please help us spread the word. This is the only way we can continue to do what we do.
Again, the easiest way is at www.maplerockfarm.com There is more info on the sight too that may help you.
Finally, from the bottom of my heart- THANK YOU. We would not be here without your generous support.

Yay, MRF and Farmer John!!
John–Tim flew over on Kenmore recently and said how great the fields are looking. Green garlic!!
Ain’t no other like this man. Respect El Jefe!
It must be mentioned that John and the crew at MRF make regular donations of fresh produce to the Orcas Island Food Bank. The abundance of food that he shares with those folks who need it goes beyond the call of duty. Well done Maple Rock Farm.
