International Day of Peace Candlelight Ceremony, an observance to call for peace in all regions of the world, will take place on Wednesday September 21, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Library Park on Prune Alley in Eastsound.
As people gather, they each choose a photo of a child from another country which have been prepared in advance. The candlelight ceremony consists of each person, one at a time, saying the name of the country of the photo they are holding. Then the group says “May peace be in (country name)” and the person hangs the photo on the line and lights their candle. Sharon Abreu, Michael Hurwicz and Marilyn Parman will play and sing songs of peace before and after the candlelighting ceremony.

Sponsored by Salmonberry School, this event is coordinated by long time peace activist and Salmonberry early childhood teacher, Linda Ellsworth, will be the third annual gathering on Orcas Island.
