Featuring the music of Martin Lund and a special presentation from yoga/movement specialist, Terra Dally, the community is invited to join us on Sunday, September 20th at the Odd Fellow’s Hall for the next Community Mindfulness Forum.

The evening begins at 4 p.m. with a community potluck, followed by the performances, and Michael Mele returns to facilitate the Forum.

Our vision is a space and time where all community members can visit, “break bread,” hear music and special presenters, and then have a safe and supportive place to bring issues.  It is a hope that, although not all issues may be “answered,” people will feel supported, connections will be made and concerned and interested people will have an opportunity to come together and begin or continue positive networking.

The Orcas Island Prevention Partnership launched this new endeavor last May – using the group’s annual meeting as the kick off for a planned series of six Community “Mindfulness” Forums.

Newer research in the field of prevention indicates that alcohol and/or drug abuses are linked to experiences of trauma and stress and continuing to build supportive responsive community is one type of positive prevention.

Martin Lund, one of the most diverse musicians in the universe, lives and breathes music in many different colors and cultures. He has played with some of the great blues artists of our time and worked in the studios of L.A. as a composer, arranger and musician with artists like Mel Torme and Isacc Hayes. His eclectic background has allowed him to move freely through any style of music from classical to rock and from jazz to broadway. He is equally adept at clarinet, saxophone, flute and piano.

Terra Dally loves yoga and movement and became a yoga teacher at age 52(!) She believes that adaptive yoga classes can support our perfect bodies regardless of their size, age or issues.  Terra’s hero is Matthew Sanford, a paralyzed yoga teacher who teaches adaptive yoga to able bodied and disabled students, and who by his example demonstrates that limiting self-images can be transcended.
