The Orcas Community Resource Center recently hosted their annual Kindergarten Transition event, welcoming over 30 families as their children prepare to begin school this fall.
Children from across the island engaged in hands-on learning stations focused on reading, math, art, and motor skills, all led by enthusiastic preschool and kindergarten teachers who shared practical ways for families to support learning at home.
“The transition event was such a thoughtful way to mark this moment—seeing all the families, preschool staff, and future teachers together was really special. As busy parents, the included dinner was a huge win! Thank you for making us feel so supported as we begin this next chapter.” ~Tobin, parent attendee
At the Parish Hall and Labyrinth, the Orcas Island Library offered children their first library cards, while each child received backpacks with school supplies and Darvill’s Bookstore gift certificates. Families enjoyed a taco dinner from Johanna’s Salvadorian Catering, creating space for connection.
This no-cost event was made possible through support from the Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP), the Orcas Community Resource Center, and a generous local donor.
The Orcas Community Resource Center’s mission is to foster a healthy community by connecting Orcas Islanders with the services and support they need to thrive. To learn more about their programs, visit orcascrc.org—they’re here to help!
