The bus is back on Orcas Island this summer thanks to funding through the National Scenic Byway Program.
Two travelers on the San Juan Islands Scenic Byway can ride the shuttle bus for the price of one. Sign up to receive your free companion Byway Explorer Day Pass at visitsanjuans.com/scenicbyway and redeem it on the shuttle bus running on Orcas Island Friday through Monday.
Travelers can download the schedule and pick-up sites at sanjuantransit.com/. Weekend service starts June 22 and daily service will also be offered during the week of July 4th.
Pick-up sites include the ferry landing, Deer Harbor, Orcas Golf, Eastsound, Rosario Resort and Moran State Park. Wheelchairs are welcome on the buses but call 378-8887 in advance to make sure proper arrangements are made.

Thanks, Margie! See you on the Byway!
I love the concept of the shuttle bus but at $10 round trip it costs MORE to take the shuttle than the fuel to drive, even in my big diesel pickup… so I’m going to spend extra money to be bound to their schedule? It’s not like I can now sell the pickup because the bus will always be there to get me places! I just don’t see how a rider funded bus is ever going to work on Orcas. There just aren’t enough people and too many miles to travel. It HAS to be publicly funded if we want mass transit.
