With 60 runners, adults, children and youth, the Funhouse Commons’ 4th annual 5K race on July 4 was again a profitable and fun fund-raiser for the island non-profit which “fosters fun and learning.”
The race was re-named the “Eat and Run” this year in honor of the many local restaurants sponsoring the race. Funhouse Director Krista Bouchey said, “The local restaurants were just great about funding sponsorships for the race.” Restaurant contributions ranged for $50 to $200, she said.
Divisions included a 5K run, 5K walk, and a 1K kids’ run through Eastsound, starting at the Village Green and ending at the Eastsound Fire Hall. Bouchey estimates that the event raised about $3,000 for the Funhouse.
Michael Bea was overall winner (male) with a time of 21:00.8.
Layna Mosley was overall winner (female) with a time of 22:54.0.
Coming up for summer fun at the Funhouse is a free outdoor showing of “Napoleon Dynamite” this Friday, July 17, starting at 9 p.m. The free, family event is a regular Friday night occurrence through the summer.
The Funhouse Commons is a not-for-profit community center that fosters fun and learning. Please call 376-7177 with any questions.
