Stories of an Iraqui veteran and his daughter living in anurban wilderness, and of a unique gourmet cooking class will regale visitors to Darvill’s on Thursday May 13.

Darvill’s will host best-selling Seattle authors Jennie Shortridge and Erica Bauermeister as they each read from their new novels at Darvill’s Bookstore  at 7pm.

When She Flew is Shortridge’s fourth novel, and is based on a true events that happened in Portland, Oregon a few years ago.  It traces the discovery of an Iraqi war vet and his young daughter who were found living in the woods near the city.

Bauermeister’s book, The School of Essential Ingredients, is her first novel, and has been given excellent reviews by a number of media sources, including Publisher’s Weekly. It is the story of a cooking class of eight students, who meet once a month in a restaurant to learn gourmet cooking skills from Lillian, a very memorable teacher.   Reviews have been excellent for both books, and covered in a wide variety of media, including People magazine, Seattle Times, and Publisher’s Weekly, and both are available in paperback editions from Penguin.
