Wednesday, July 20, 7 p.m. OR Sunday, July 24, 3 p.m., Orcas Grange
— from Lin McNulty, Actors Theater —
Actors Theater of Orcas Island (ATOI) will be bringing a hot desert play featuring a conflagration of family dynamics, tradition, and secrecy to the Grange Stage in November. Other Desert Cities was written by Jon Robin Baitz (ABC TVs Brothers & Sisters). The play premiered Off-Broadway in January 2011 and transferred to Broadway in November 2011, marking the Broadway debut of a Baitz play.
The play on Orcas Island, directed by Lin McNulty, currently has five openings for dynamic roles. Polly and Lyman Wyeth are an old-school Republican Hollywood couple with two grown children. Polly’s sister Silda Grauman is a wise, recovering drug addict who has yet to move out on her own after treatment. Son Trip Wyeth (male 30s) and his sister Brooke Wyeth (female 30s, but older than Trip) bring differing tactics to deal with this significant family get-together..
Two separate audition sessions are to be held on either Wednesday, July 20, 7 p.m. OR Sunday, July 24, 3 p.m., at the Orcas Grange. It is not necessary to attend both auditions. A copy of the script is available for review at the Orcas Island Library.
The play will run November 11 – 13, and November 18-20, with rehearsals beginning in August.
