15th Annual Bill Yarlott Fishing Derby. Celebrate opening day for fishing season and a rite of passage for so many kids with the Friends of Moran. Event starts at 7 am aat Cascade Lake with a hot breakfast and coffee or cocoa. You can expect to find Philip Miller, flipping pancakes and serving hot coffee and cocoa. Kids can hope to catch Kokanee, Cutthroat and Rainbow trout from Cascade Lake. Prizes are awarded at 11 am. A special thanks to our local sponsors Orcas Outfitters and Kings Market who support this annual event and provide some fantastic prizes.
Coach’s Team Challenge Golf Tournament to benefit all public school sports programs through the Orcas Booster Club. Starts at 8 a.m. at the Orcas Golf Course. Granny’s Attic Sale, 10 a.m. to 3 pm at the Senior Center. This is one of the major fund raisers for the Senior Center, with many wonderful items to choose from. A fun all-island garage sale where everyone can find treasures and help the elders of our island at the same time. Bring your own reusable bags to help the environment and remember that from 2 – 3, p.m. all furniture will be half price as will most of the items in the “better” room. All items, in the Lundeen Room are $5 for a grocery bag full at the last hour.

Singer, Songwriter Nell Robinson & Jim Nunally perform at the Odd Fellows Hall at 7 p.m. Nell’s music is a sensuous sepia-toned blend of folk, bluegrass, country, and Americana. She will be performing with award winning guitarist Jim Nunally. Jim is a world-class guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, a two time Western Open Masterpicking Champion and Guitar Champion.This harmony-driven duo will preview original new material from their highly-anticipated upcoming “duo” album that will be released this summer. The Good Lovelies at the Orcas Center at 7:30 p.m. – Special Event: Burgers + Brew at 5:30 p.m. Good Lovelies are not your run-of-the mill “all girl” band. Winners of the 2010 Juno Award for Roots Album of the Year and the New Emerging Artist Award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards – the aptly named Good Lovelies are Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore, all of them best friends and refugees from solo careers. Part folk roots, part Western Swing, the Toronto based trio relies on unerring three part vocal harmonies, clever songs, and convulsively funny repartee on stage.
