Showing our support for Mariners playoff run
We partnered with the Seattle Mariners for an onboard celebration Friday, ahead of the weekend’s Major League Baseball American League Division Series home game. Tacoma, which was temporarily renamed Mariners “Good Vibes Only,” was dressed up in team colors and banners. Mariners announcer Aaron Goldsmith served as honorary captain for a morning roundtrip sailing between Seattle and Bainbridge Island with the Mariner Moose also on board. Thank you, Mariners, for getting our riders pumped up for the game and congratulations on a captivating season!
Earthquake preparedness
Our employees participated in the Great Washington ShakeOut earthquake drill today. At 10:20 a.m., we were instructed to react according to our location: Drop, cover and hold on, find an open spot, or safely pull vehicle over. Employees then evacuated to designated areas and did an accountability check. Those teleworking were encouraged to find a safe place outside and check in with their supervisor. It’s important that we continuously improve our earthquake preparedness!
In the event of a tsunami warning, our terminal and vessel crews will take immediate and follow-up actions to protect lives and property and render aid and support. Our main objectives would be to minimize the risk of injury to the public and employees, minimize damage to the environment and our facilities, and provide response and recovery support to the disaster response team and the surrounding community.
Boy Scouts help move rocks at Eagle Harbor
Over the years, rocks on the embankment of a creek at our Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility have either been thrown, rolled or moved downhill into the streambed. Because of a recent Boy Scout service project, those rocks are back where they belong! Thanks to Troop 1496 for your time and muscle!
