National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the islands from noon through midnight on Monday. Northerly winds with gusts up to 50mph could cause local power outages in exposed areas, particularly on north facing sections of Orcas.
Given the forecast of severe cold for next 48 hours (lows into low 20’s), now is a good time for islanders to think about how to keep themselves and their pipes warm in the event of an outage.
And as always, it’s a good opportunity to check in on neighbors who might need a hand with coping with the winter weather.

Periodic snow and heavy winds are forecast to end late Monday night and cold weather should last through Wednesday. In addtion to driving with care, islanders are encouraged to keep an eye on neighbors who might need an extra hand, especially if there’s a power outage in your neigborhood.
