The organizers of the Second Annual Orcas Island Cider and Mead Festival to be held on Saturday, May 12, is looking for anyone on Orcas who feels they have home brewed the best cider, mead or anything in between (sorry, no beers) and would like to enter it in a contest to earn the title of “Orcas Best of the Fest.”
If you’re one of them, contact Madie Murray at gomadie@gmail.com or 3064 and let her know. It is open this year to Orcas Island home brewers only.
For the second year in a row, the Orcas Island Cider and Mead Festival tasting tent will be erected next to the Village Green Stage on the opening day of the Farmer’s Market. All visitors to the tent age 21 and older will be able to taste some of the best ciders and meads available from great Northwest producers. The tent will be open and live bands will be performing on stage from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a break to judge and hand out the beautiful awards made by Crow Valley Pottery to our talented home brewers.
The event is organized by and benefits the Orcas Island Farm to Cafeteria Program and co-produced by Ray’s General Store and Pharmacy and the Northwest Cider Association. Island businesses help sponsor the event and several Island restaurants including Allium and Ship Bay will be featuring special menus with cider pairings leading up to the Festival date.
As the event draws nearer, additional information regarding the festival and participating producers will be published as well as placed on the Festival web site at www.orcasislandciderfest.org
