Friday, December 20, 4:30 p.m., American Camp
— from Tracie Merrell for The Whale Museum —
Please join The Whale Museum (TWM) at the first parking lot at South Beach, American Camp on San Juan Island, on Friday, December 20, at 4:30 p.m. as TWM honors the lives of Southern Resident Killer Whale babies who died before receiving names.
Every baby born to the Southern Resident Killer Whales deserves a name. While their lives were brief, they were no less significant. Help honor these babies. Come join us around a bonfire and stargaze. Names, based on the stars, will be bestowed to all the known babies who died nameless.
In the event of inclement or cloudy weather, the alternative location will be The Whale Museum. At 4 p.m., a decision based on weather conditions will be made and sent out via Twitter Twitter/TheWhaleMuseum).
This December 20 event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, please call (360) 378-4710 ext. 30. The Whale Museum is located in Friday Harbor at 62 First St. N.
Founded in 1979, The Whale Museum’s mission is to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research. In addition to providing exhibits, the Museum also provides programs including the Marine Naturalist Training, Orca Adoption Program, Soundwatch Boater Education, San Juan County Marine Mammal Stranding Network, and the Whale Hotline.
