— from Governor Inslee’s Office —
With less than 25 days left of the regular Legislative session, legislators are buckling down to finish their work on time. Out of the 18 priority bills for the governor, 17 of them are still working their way through the process.
There’s good news for all of the governor’s climate bills. A House committee passed the 100 percent clean energy plan Tuesday and the bill now advances to the financial review. On Friday, the Senate heard the buildings bill, which would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting energy-efficient buildings and renewable fuels. The clean fuel bills that phases down super-polluting hdryofluorocarbons was heard in committee Thursday. You can read more about the governor’s clean energy proposal on his Medium page.
The three orca bills have passed their original chambers. They are now in opposite chamber committees with hearings scheduled for next week. The bills would increase salmon, protect orcas from vessel noise, and increase the safety of oil transportation.
Finally, a crucial behavioral health bill that would establish a University of Washington hospital and new teaching curriculum went through multiple hearings this week.
