Builders learn up-to-date weatherization techniques

From the Economic Development Council

The San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) and the Northwest Workforce Council are pleased to announce that the Weatherization Tech Training program has enabled nine San Juan County builders to expand their knowledge base to include retrofitting and weatherization techniques

The program – presented by the EDC and the Northwest Workforce Council, funded by grants from NCAF/ExxonMobil, San Juan County and the State of Washington, and presented by the Building Performance Center – provided island builders with five days of training in weatherization and retrofitting techniques.  Participants will receive their certification on June 10, 2011 at Skagit Valley College.

Nine builders were supported in the training, including:

  • Todd Kegerreis and Andre Enterman of Sage Building Solutions (Lopez);
  • Gerald Ormond, Greg Taylor, Michael Daley and Kent DuCote of KDL Construction (San Juan);
  • Hans Hellmann of Hellman Construction (Lopez); Eli Derzay of Swal’lech Construction (Lopez);
  • Richard Russell of Russell Construction (Orcas).

The San Juan County Economic Development Council and the Northwest Workforce Council would like to thank San Juan County government, the Town of Friday Harbor, the NCAF, ExxonMobil, the State of Washington’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Program for Certified Renovators, the Building Performance Center and Skagit Valley College for their support of the program.

For information on future building classes, please contact Victoria Compton, San Juan County Economic Development Council, 378-2906, or Minnie Knych, Northwest Workforce Council, 378-4662.
