Wednesday, March 6, 1 p.m., Senior Center

— from Lena Kassa for Orcas Senior Center —

Bradford Hanson-Smith will lecture on the use of paper folding to understand mathematical function on Wednesday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at the Orcas Senior Center. Paper folding  demonstrates that the circle reveals principles and patterns in the first fold that are fundamental to all subsequent folding, reforming, transforming, and joining to develop complex systems.

This kind and amount of demonstration does not occur anywhere else in one place. There is no mathematical calculating necessary; only a sequential touching one point to another and creasing. Observation about movement and change is an important part of this simple, yet comprehensive process. It is unity of the Whole that generates and regulates the sequential development of differentiated, discreet, individual parts within the circumference boundary.

To learn more about Bradford Hanson-Smith’s work on folding circles go to wholemovement.com/. A follow up class will take place on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to practice and create paper folded circles with students from Salmonberry School.

Call the Orcas Senior Center at 360-376-2677 to reserve your spot in the class.
