Being double vaxxed and boosted didn’t spare Orcas Islander Bethany Marie from contracting and experiencing a miserable COVID bout.
Yet, she was willing to share with our readers what that looks like and tell us what it feels like.

Another Covid report.
My son and granddaughter got Covid and were isolating, but I was still testing negative so I decided to go ahead with my 2nd booster on Thursday 5th. After the booster I was ridiculously tired and crashed in bed with my clothes on – never done that before!
That weekend I assumed my feeling out of sorts was to do with booster side effects, but on Monday I woke up feeling ghastly, my throat was so sore I had to steel myself to swallow, and I felt totally exhausted. I took a test – positive. Two days spent in bed with the very sore throat, and a tickle at the bottom of my lungs that sometimes caused me to wretch when i coughed – cough was unproductive though – no congestion. A few days later days congestion developed and when a friend asked how I was doing I said I felt like I was 100 years old with a bad cold The exhaustion and brain fog were intense though! Because of the booster, I am not totally sure when I contracted the virus. Tested yesterday – still positive. Slowly feeling better each day,
Here is my imperfect Covid Haiku:
This misty morning
Reflects the state of my mind
Permanent brain fog
From today’s 5/14/2022 New York Times update on covid rates, San Juan County tops all counties in Washington state at a 14 day change of
=284% cases and has the highest infection rate of 90 infections per 100,000 people.
Be safe.
Are you sure they are not talking about San Juan County, New Mexico? Looked for this info and it was not verifiable but i saw lots in the news about New Mexico’s San Juan County.
The NYT data dovetail with what San Juan County, WA, has recently reported on its Covid-19 web site — over 100 cases in the past week, worst in the state per 100K.
First off, thanks for this and please feel better soon! It went through my family last week. The cat and I got it last, on Mother’s Day. There was Paxlovid in FH, so since I have asthma, the Doc wrote a prescription and a friend brought it over. Makes your mouth taste like you’ve been chewing dandelion roots, but I am grateful!
Why can’t we get Paxlovid here on Orcas Island.???
And including Cindy, I know THREE people who have come down with Covid-19 in the last week or so, and that doesn’t include their possible family members. This tells me that the official numbers being reported are gross underestimates of what is really happening here.
Wish I had the presence of mind to get the paxlovid Cindy. Hope it worked well for you!
I’m a “senior”, and I’ve had COVID since last Saturday, confirmed with a home antigen test, and Sunday especially was bad. Like a bad head and chest cold, but the lethargy was the worst I’ve ever had. Since then I’ve been surprised by how fast I’m recovering given how bad I felt, and I’m getting better much faster than after an everyday cold. So the vaccinations didn’t help me avoid COVID, but I would not be surprised at all if they lessened and shortened the illness.
Also, I never did have a fever, ironic given the emphasis through the pandemic on taking the temperature of incoming clients of various health and other businesses — including a car dealership I found myself in. Interestingly (for nerds like me anyway), my oxygen saturation dropped to 93 on Sunday, now back to the normal 97/98. What was that about?
By the way, another difference was that my dehydration has been worse than any flu or cold in my life and I had to make an effort to drink tons of water flavored with sports hydration tablets.
