Kaleidoscope Garage Sale Fundraiser — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1292 North Beach Road. Here’s your chance to locate some amazing ‘stuff’ you just have to own! There will be clothes, toys, household goods, and everything you can imagine. Any clothes not sold will be donated to a consignment shop for credit to be used by families in need. Orcas Island Saturday Market, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Village Green in Eastsound
Indian Island Marine Health Observatory Field Research Days Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join local scientists and community volunteers at Eastsound Waterfront Park in conducting surveys of fish and intertidal animals on low tide days during the summer. If you are interested in identifying the forage fish in the eel grass meadows, fish seining will take place on Saturday only between 11 a.m. and noon. Final Research Dates for This Season: Sunday (9 am – 12 noon); Monday (10 am – 12 noon); and Tuesday (11 am – 1 pm). Wear appropriate footwear for walking to the island (wet sand, gravel, shallow water), and come on down to the beach! www.Indianisland.info
San Juan County Pioneer’s Picnic at the Orcas Island Museum, 12 non to 3 p.m. All islanders are invited to this Pioneer’s Picnic! Bring a picnic lunch (desserts & refreshments are provided). There will be trophies for the oldest man & woman present – and one for the longest continuous resident. Be sure to visit the Journey Stories exhibit at the museum (11 am – 4 pm). A videographer will be available to record your story!
Journeys That Shape Our Lives: A storytelling event 3 to 5 p.m. at the Senior Center. Reception follows the performance. Orcas Island storytellers will perform:
- Nancy Wang will tell the story ‘Bittersweet’, her journey to understand her mother by researching her mother’s family of 4 American generations and discovering that a daughter’s perspective is limiting.
- Ginni Stern will tell the story of her 15 annual trips to Auschwitz, going to explore her personal family history, and learning the limits of compassion and the malleable boundaries of our humanity.
- Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo will tell the magical story ‘Butterfly’ – the story of his mother?s immigration from the Philippines to San Francisco when she was 5 years old. He will also sing songs he wrote of cultural identity and the journey of self-awareness through the Asian American experience.
- Anji Ringzin will recite the poetry of the Sufi poet Rumi, celebrating the heart journey of love.
Getting Along Famously The Actors Theater of Orcas Island at the Grange, 7:30 p.m.This play is a fun, light-hearted look at what happens when Harry Leeby, the worlds most successful paperback novel writer wants to write a “good” novel. Harry Leeby has written eighteen Axel Troy mysteries which have spawned movies, TV, fame and fortune. But Axel is invincible, much too clever for him enemies so the only one left to kill him is Harry. This is the story of what happens when he does.
