Budding and somewhat experienced playwrights are invited to participate in a playwriting class to be held on Orcas Island Saturday October 10, 17, November 7, and 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a place near the ferry landing to be announced. (Call instructor for further information: Botsford, 376-4285) The course will include exercises in development of character and conflict and adaptation of a short story into a narrative play along with reading and analysis of several contemporary plays. Each person will be encouraged to write a one-act play suitable for performance in the San Juan Islands.

The instructor, Antoinette Botsford, holds a Ph.D. in Theatre History and Dramaturgy from UCLA. Botsford has co-authored 13 produced television scripts, numerous plays for Agitprop and street theatre productions, and has published four adaptations of plays by Michel de Ghelderode. She recently taught Theatre 101 for Skagit Valley College and was theatre critic for a Los Angeles weekly newspaper for five years.
