Strength training is changing rooms and times at the Orcas Island Senior Center.
The classes have been so full that last week we couldn’t get everyone in. To make sure that we have room for these challenging and fun workouts the classes are moving to the bigger Lundeen Room starting this week. This is the same room that lunch is served in so the class time will be moving to 1:30 pm on Friday.
The classes have been filled with exercise and light-hearted banter making for a rewarding experience. Trainer Cameron Krein has a new workout each week and sends the participants home with a “homework” workout to build on the work done in the class. “The goal is to build bone density and muscular coordination while having a fun time. I love this group because they are so willing to tell me what they think and how they feel about the things we are doing” he says.
The feedback has been sensational according to Cameron who also says that the attendees have asked if there may be additional days added to the group schedule.
The Lundeen Room will also allow music to be added to the program in future weeks. The cost for the session is $6, and basic household items are used as the resistance and are provided, though many participants bring their own weights.
Cameron Krein is a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer and can be reached at 298-1565 and cameronkrein@yahoo.com
