— from F. Milene Henley —

Special Three-Day Filing Period Opens Wednesday May 20

A void in candidacy happens when no one files for an open elected position. When a void in candidacy occurs after the regular filing week, there is a special three-day filing period for those offices. San Juan County Elections will hold a special three-day candidate filing period starting Wednesday, May 20, at 8 a.m. and ending Friday, May 22, at 4:30 p.m. Candidates can only file for the offices listed below.

Four districts have voids in candidacy. Candidates are especially encouraged to file for positions with the Orcas Island Park and Recreation District, as no candidates filed for any of the district’s five open positions.

Persons interested in filing as a candidate need to complete a Declaration of Candidacy found at www.sanjuanco.com/elections, or available in person at the Elections Office. The Declaration of Candidacy forms can be mailed or emailed to San Juan County Elections, PO Box 638, Friday Harbor, WA 98250, or taken to the Elections office at 55 Second Street, Suite A, Friday Harbor. Declarations must be received by Friday, May 22. Contact San Juan County Elections at (360) 378-3357 for more information.
