By Doris Schaller, County Elections Supervisor
A special three day filing period will be held in accordance with RCW 29A.24.171 for the offices listed below. Filings will be accepted on June 15, 16 & 17, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Candidate filings received after 4:30 Friday, June 17 will not be accepted.
A special three day filing period is held when no candidates file for the available offices during the regular filing period. In the case of the Charter Review Commissioners, if fewer candidates filed than are allowed for a district, those positions are also open during the three-day filing period.
Candidate filings for the positions named below can be made in person, by mail or online. If there is still a void in candidacy after the special three-day filing period, positions other than Charter Review Commissioner will not appear on the November 8, 2011 General Election ballot, and the current incumbent will remain in office. Charter Review positions will still appear on the ballot, but fewer than the allowed number will be elected from those two districts.
More information about filing for the offices listed below may be obtained by contacting the Elections Office at 55 Second St, PO Box 638, Friday Harbor, WA 98250, by phone at (360) 378-3357, or by e-mail: elections@co.san-juan.wa.us. Why not keep all the charter review positions open, even those that have the minimum required slots spoken for? if we only get the minimum in every district, there is no election because those automatically get in.
