With the break in the weather, we are excited to announce that our photovoltaic solar demonstration system is being installed today!
This project was made possible thanks to a $50,000 Solar 4R Schools grant from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation and a $15,000 cash match from OPALCO. We thank both for their incredible generosity!
PortraitNot only will we end up with an 11-kilowatt grid-tied solar system on our roof generating power for our facility, we will also have on site an information kiosk for our community to monitor the system’s performance, a renewable energy teacher training program, and interactive, hands-on classroom materials regarding solar and wind energy activities for our island schools and for our own programs.
Streamside Renewables, an Orcas Island based solar business, is leading the project and is responsible for the system design. Pickett Spring electricians are assisting with the install and will be wiring the equipment.
We invite you to stop by today to watch the process. Thank you for your interest and support!
