Hawaiian guest musician Maka Gallinger is featured on Tuesday, July 21st, for a fun class and jam at Doe Bay Resort on Orcas Island. This island-to-island music exchange brings a beloved Hawaiian singer and ukulele player to Doe Bay Resort for a friendly ‘Kanakapila’ jam welcoming all ukulele players. Bring your uke and join in the wonderful music gathering, 1-4pm.
Maka is hosted by the Artist in Residence program at Doe Bay Resort, in conjunction with Eye of the Whale Arts, to offer this very special sister island community gathering. As Maka tours the Pacific Northwest, she has been invited to the San Juan Islands and this is her first visit to Orcas so come join in this joyful welcome. All ages and abilities welcome. To help defer her travel expenses, donations are greatly appreciated at https://makagallinger.com/home . Email creatives@eyeofthewhalearts. org to RSVP for the jam or for further information.
Maka is a Native Hawaiian advocate, singer-songwriter, recording artist and accomplished performer on the Island of Hawai’i. Known for her unique ukulele play style, versatility and powerful voice, Maka continues to create music that is true to who she is. Her music blends tones of reggae, latin and island sounds with lyrics that will uplift and inspire the listener. As a mother of 4, homeschooling and living off grid, her family and faith has shaped who she is as a person. Her lifestyle fuels her message and music for the world today as she shares songs of personal trials, hope, love and revolution from the inside out.
Maka and her band 808 Ohana are also performing on the Orcas Green on Sunday, July 19th, thanks to support from The Orcas Center and Doe Bay Resort. See orcascenter.org for details.
