from the SeaDoc Society
Sadly, our friend Nancy Alboucq passed away earlier in the summer after a short battle with cancer. Nancy was a frequent volunteer in the SeaDoc office and always brightened our days when she came in. She was dedicated to the principles of SeaDoc and was a strong advocate for the program and its goals.
In the past weeks we have received an outpouring of donations in Nancy’s memory. Thank you to those who have made donations. Nancy loved the Salish Sea and its creatures, and we will use these funds to protect and heal the marine ecosystem.

Nancy touched many of us, whether through the Beach Watchers program, the Orcas Island Marine Health Observatory research, the SoundToxins phytoplankton sampling through NOAA or just giving a cheerful hello across the aisle at music concerts.
I miss her.
The ripples of this tragedy travel through many circles of our community, from SeaDoc to music to fashion to many friends and contacts. If there is one thing to learn from this it is to treasure each other while we can, say hello, give a hug, appreciate the gifts each of us bring to this small community. Nancy will long be remembered for her many contributions and friendly demeanor. I along with many others truly miss her.
