With 15 ballots remaining to be counted, the Orcas Island School District Proposition teeters on the cusp of either passing or failing. If all 15 of those votes are for ‘Approval,’ then the levy will have the required 60 percent needed to pass.
The next ballot count is scheduled for February 23, 2017, at 5 p.m. at the Elections Office in Friday Harbor.

59.73%?!! So close. Too bad we can’t round up.
I reference my earlier comment about voter participation. The School levy will probably fail by about five votes based on probability ratios. If 50 more people had voted, it would have already succeeded.
What a shame on all of us that we do not take our First Amendment rights seriously and vote in every election, every time.
Now what? Most of the folks with whom I spoke that voted NO did so for a specific reason. The Board needs to ascertain what that reason is, and re-present a bond request in a different form so that the voters have an opportunity to select their level of support.
The underlying issue is that whatever choices are placed before the electorate by any of our community agencies, WE ALL NEED TO VOTE !!!
