On May 1st, Indivisible San Juan Islands, organized an event where islanders from each of the islands organized at their ferry terminals. The local group organized in sync with nationwide movements for International Workers’ Day, a public holiday in most countries.
The aim was to celebrate the achievements of the labor movement, and continue to gather to stand for Democracy and oppose the current administration’s attacks on working people. The group at Friday Harbor even brought warm homemade cookies to the ferry workers.
We chanted, we greeted ferry workers, brought them homemade warm cookies, and even had music and huge bubbles blowing.
Thank you all for helping us share how our small islands have big voices, participating in the nationwide movements. The Indivisible San Juan Islands, a local group of national Indivisible.org, is growing daily.
Their next event is planned for June 14th, to celebrate “OUR” Flag Day, with a massive community potluck out front of the courthouse.

Thank you Orcasonian for drawing attention to our local efforts to stop the corruption, support a livable wage for our workers and honor our ferry workers, including those that are contracted and receive far less pay than ferry system employees on International Workers Day. Everyone in this wealthy country deserves a livable wage. No Blame. Let’s just make that work.
There are a number of issues we need to deal with as citizens with what is happening in our country.
June 14th. Flag Day. Honor our country day. Honor the rule of law and democracy day. No Kings. Just we the people. Disagreement is healthy. Meanness is not. Some websites if you are interested: indivisible.org and 50501.org. They are not partisan. They are pro-democracy.
I am deeply concerned about what is happening in our country. Please show up June 14th at a rally near you if you are at all concerned. The longer we wait to voice the future we want, the harder it will be for courage, honesty and integrity to prevail…without jail time.
