||| FROM ELISE COPE for FRIENDS OF THE SAN JUANS |||

Friends of the San Juans and Salish Current are proud to co-host a special evening with journalist and author Lynda V. Mapes to celebrate her latest book, The Trees Are Speaking.

Tuesday, May 13
5:00–7:00 PM (Doors open at 4:30 PM)
Brickworks, Friday Harbor

This free community event invites readers to connect with Mapes’ powerful new storytelling—a reflection on forests, kinship, and environmental stewardship. Blending science, environmental journalism, and Indigenous knowledge, The Trees Are Speaking explores the deep wisdom of the natural world and what it means to truly listen.

Admission is free and open to all. Advance registration is requested at sanjuans.org/events. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Griffin Bay Bookstore.

An optional donation of $100 or more to support the sponsoring nonprofits includes:

  • Reserved priority seating at the event
  • A special pre-signed copy of The Trees Are Speaking
  • Dual impact: supporting independent journalism through Salish Current and protecting
island communities and the Salish Sea ecosystem through Friends of the San Juans’
    membership.
