— from RCMP Staff Sergeant Ward Johnson, via San Juan County Sheriff’s Office —

rcmpcanoeThe vessel that went missing last evening is an RCMP First Nation cultural event canoe that is described as a 29 ft Langley fibreglass canoe white in colour with a sea serpent on the bow (photograph above).

Serial # ZWDVL007K112
Registration # C20278BC

The canoe had capsized when being towed (without occupants) just northwest of Waldron Island at around 1630 hours yesterday. The direction that the winds were blowing at the time would suggest that it would drift towards Waldron Island, however, given that I am not familiar with the tidal currents it may have been taken in another direction. If it is still adrift it would be sitting low in the water given that it took on water.

Any assistance you might be able to provide in locating this vessel would be appreciated.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me or Sgt. Wayne Conley at 250-656-3931, or San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, 378-4151.
