Monday, October 28, 5 p.m., Eastsound Fire Station
— from Dwight Guss for Port of Orcas —
The Port Master Plan meeting that was scheduled for Monday October 28 has been canceled due to a conflict with the Health Care Meeting on that same date. I will notify all when a new meeting date has been determined.
The Port of Orcas is currently preparing a master plan for Orcas Island Airport that will guide the direction of projects to bring the airport into compliance with safety standards for existing airport operations and to provide for the future needs of island residents and visitors over the next 20 years. The project will be wrapping up and publishing a draft report in the coming months.
The Airport Master Plan Team will be presenting an update on the status of the project and next steps to the Port Commissioners at a special meeting on October 28 at 5 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Station at 45 Lavender Ln, Eastsound, WA 98245.
For more information about the project, the alternative options, and the project schedule please visit http://www.portoforcas.com/master-plan/ .

Must our community choose between this important Port meeting and the Orcas Island Health Care District meeting at basically the same time???????????????? Can anyone reschedule????????????
Reschedule the DOWL presentation! The Health Care meeting has been on the books for weeks. Having attended most port commission meetings in the last 18 months, I’m acutely aware how important this master plan meeting is to us all — and also don’t believe it was totally coincidental that it’s scheduled for a smaller crowd. We’ve been waiting for 10 months for this DOWL meeting, watching the port website for ANY new information from DOWL about the plan which was promised long ago — do the right thing Port of Orcas! We can wait a few weeks longer.
I urge anyone who cares about what’s happening at the Port to write the commissioners and insist that they reschedule the DOWL meeting to NOT conflict with the important Town Hall RESCHEDULED meeting that will take many of the would-be attendees away from this important town hall with DOWL. Petition, anyone?
Dwight, you really must see what you can do about rescheduling with DOWL. All of the information is out there, a date should have been found that didn’t create conflict.
More than ever, now is the time for the port to do the right thing and put community first.
Unbelievable! Could there be a method to this madness….
Glad to hear the port has canceled the DOWL session on the 28th — it was the right thing to do. Looking forward to seeing LOTS of our islanders at the presentation when rescheduled.
And reschedule it to occur BEFORE the election, yes? The proposed master plan has potentially huge negative consequences for our island.
Thank you for cancelling the meeting and listening to the constituency. A reminder to local voters; there is a drop box at the Senior Center which you can use to drop your ballot until 8 pm election night.
Thanks for making the change in date, it was important to me and the community.
I also want to emphasize what Peg and Sadie said. I agree that before the election is important. I think there is substantial misconceptions about the Master Plan and growth of the port, and the view of many candidates related to limiting the airport to providing essential services. Most important, and thank you Sadie, it is important to vote and the election box at the senior center is a very convenient way to vote. It is your right, it is your obligation as an American
Greg, Please elaborate, explain what you mean with ” I think there is substantial misconceptions about the Master Plan and growth of the port, and the view of many candidates related to limiting the airport to providing essential services.”
