I Have to Write Today. I Must.
Ed Wilson
Because I am not
standing outside
a collapsed apartment building
in Turkey or Syria,
because I did not
spend the night shivering
in freezing cold
with others
who are lifting rubble
in hopes of reaching
the voices they hear
beneath the remains
of their homes,
because I am not
there, but here,
on the other side
of the planet,
with sunlight
streaming down
and warming
the ground,
because I am here
and because I am able,
I have to write today.
I must.
