— from the Orcas Women’s Coalition —

The OWC-IRG Immigration Initiative qualified for the November ballot with overwhelming numbers because you wanted to make a difference and it worked. A small but mighty coalition of citizen activists from all the big islands brought your tidings to the San Juan County Council at their Tuesday meeting, and as a result, a date has been set for a Public Hearing to consider adopting our initiative BEFORE November!

TAKE ACTION to get 2017-07 over the finish line. This is a turning point when your voice and your presence will make a big difference getting our County Council to do the right thing which is to pass the ordinance as written right then and there! This is the Council’s opportunity to send a message of support for the will of the people, for our immigrant residents and for the safety of our communities.

At 8:45 a.m. August 15th let’s make a crowd of compassionate, politically engaged people from all over the county on the Courthouse lawn in Friday Harbor. We will walk together to the Large Legislative Conference Room of County Council Offices across the road at 55 Second Street. If you need alternative transportation up the hill from the ferry dock, email Cindy at cwolf@seanet.com and we will coordinate with kind folks on San Juan Island.

It is pretty crucial to let us know you will come and if you would like to speak by signing up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e4aafac2cabf58-sanjuan. This way we can get you talking points if you want them, marching plans, sign making ideas and any changes in meeting times or with the ferry schedule.

Yours with Love, Courage and Much Delight,
