||| FROM LENA KASSA for ORCAS SENIOR CENTER |||

Orcas Senor Center’s (OSC’s) capital campaign is well on its way to raising the $1.5 million needed to achieve full ownership of the building. As the thermometer at Brown Bear reflects, we have raised about $613,000 thus far. We need your financial support to reach this important goal. Every little (and big) bit helps!

OSC has greatly increased services and activities in the past year. The nonprofit needs full use of the OSC building to adequately meet the needs of our growing senior community and to become a community center for people of all ages and abilities on Orcas. We anticipate that transition over the next 2-5 years and are working with local government to avoid any reduced access to county services on the island.

With less than three full-time employees, OSC provides more than 2,000 service contacts per month to older adults and people living with disabilities, thanks to approximately 100 volunteers. The nonprofit is not a government agency and receives no tax dollar support.

You can ensure that the Center remains a community resource for years to come. OSC has an agreement with San Juan County to buy its 49% interest in the facility. A successful capital campaign will fund complete ownership of the building, critical deferred maintenance, repairs, and possibly future improvements as community needs require.
