At 07:36 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle upside down in the pond on the corner of Mt. Baker and Terrill Beach Road. Deputies arrived to find a vehicle mostly submerged.
Evidence on scene shows the vehicle was travelling northbound on Terrill Beach Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway at the corner of Terrill Beach and Mt. Baker Road. The vehicle struck a dirt mound which caused it to become airborne where it travelled approximately 91 feet though the air before impacting the ground and eventually came to rest upside down in the lake.
The lone occupant, identified as Isaac Elijah Aragon-Smith of Yelm Washington, was found deceased inside the vehicle. Smith had been on Orcas working at Rosario Resort for the summer. The events leading up to the accident are still being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office.

Is it not time for the county to remove the hill that is a launch pad and replace it with a sand trap and arrows on the road that alert drivers to beware of the turn.
