— from Artha Kass for Orcas Center —
Come one, come all to Orcas Center! Art is for everyone and everyone should have the opportunity to experience it. And now you can!
$5 tickets for all Orcas Center produced events are now available. 20 seats per show priced at $5 will be held at the box office until they’re gone.
Just come in to the Box Office to purchase them. No vouchers, no ids, no obstacles, no stumbling blocks, no inconvenience, no barriers to art! Just appear at the Box Office during regular box office hours [Weds-Fri from noon to 2 p.m. and one hour prior to each performance] and ask for your subsidized $5 tickets. As long as any of the 20 seats are still available for the performance you wish, they’re yours to purchase.
Orcas Center was awarded a generous grant from Orcas Island Community Foundation to underwrite our subsidized ticket program. One of Orcas Center’s primary goals has been to provide affordable access to art and now we can realize this together.
The $5 tickets are available for all Orcas Center produced performances only.
They are not available for all other events:
• Performances by community groups or individuals are always noted with an asterisk* on Orcas Center’s website, Orcas Center’s web Box Office page, the Centerline newsletter, the Playbill and all other Orcas Centered printed materials.
• Benefit concerts and Orcas Center’s Annual Gala are not included
A family of four can now come to a full price ticket show for just $20; community adults, seniors and students who might not otherwise attend can now purchase $5 tickets. We want to reach as diverse a population as possible with families and seniors a commitment and to make sure cost is not a barrier to art.
Here’s just a sample of what you can experience for just $5:
• April Verch
• Hamlet with Benedict Cumberbatch
• All Met: Live operas including the Holiday offering of the Magic Flute ( Julie Taymor)
• Wild and Scenic Film Festival
• Dallas Brass
• The Bolshoi – The Nutcracker, Jewels
• BodyVox
Stop by the Box Office with questions about the newly launched subsidized ticket program. Tell your friends and neighbors that Art is for Everyone!

It is about time that some of the performances will be available at a reduced rate to the Whole Island Community. My understanding is that when money was provided by Dr. Austin to build the Center he did so with the expectation that All Islanders would be able to afford tickets to All performances. A step in the right direction Orcas Center Board!

As Artha described, the reduced-priced tickets are the result of a grant from OICF (the Orcas Island Community Foundation).
So, this is for low income people who can’t otherwise afford tickets to a show?
