— from Susannah Weaver for Orcas Center —
The Orcas Center has chosen “A Christmas Carol” as the Winter show leading the 2017-2018 season. The play will run for five performances on Orcas Center’s main stage. This is the beloved version that has become an island tradition, complete with Jim Bredouw’s brilliant and heartwarming music. This year Jim returns as Musical Director, with Melinda Milligan taking the wheel as Director. Melinda is known to many on Orcas as an actor, singer in “The Olga Symphony,” and director with the Actors Theater of Orcas Island.
This production of “A Christmas Carol” is open to anyone. We encourage anyone to audition for any role, and gender is not an issue. Do you want to be the first female Scrooge? How about Tiny Tess? Please come and read for whatever role you feel called to. The performances are scheduled for 6:30 to support the involvement of our local families and kids.
AUDITION DATES: Wednesday, September 20 and Thursday September 21, from 6-9 p.m., at Orcas Center, in the Madrona Room. Callbacks will be Friday, September 22, 6-9 p.m. in the Orcas Center Black Box. Come prepared to read or preferably speak a short memorized piece and sing a short song of your own choosing. Sample pieces of the script (sides) will be available at Orcas Center and the Library one week prior to auditions, if you would like to prepare to audition for a specific role.
PERFORMANCE DATES: Five consecutive performances: December 11 – 15 at 6:30 p.m., Saturday December 16, 2 p.m. matinee and Sunday, December 17, 6:30 p.m. on Center Stage.
