Photographers from throughout our island will share their most recent work with friends and neighbors at Orcas Center beginning Friday, November 1.

Coordinated by the Center’s Visual Arts committee, the month-long exhibit, “The Open Lens” will kick off with a reception for the participating artists, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The show is open to all photo enthusiasts and will have a long run — through December 3.

As with previous such exhibits, the program will offer works spanning a wide aesthetic and technical range, from landscapes and portraits to surreal and abstract images of various sorts.

Diane Kornberg, distinguished artist/photographer residing on Obstruction Island, will be a special guest.She will present a brief illustrated program on the changing nature of photography, and moderate an ensuing conversation with reception guests.

Diane’s photographs and photo-based prints have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and are represented in numerous museum public and private collections, including those of the American Embassy in Belize; the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle; Portland Art Museum, Houston Museum of Art, Seattle Art Museum and Tacoma Art Museum She has an MFA degree from Indiana University in painting and is Professor Emerita of Photography at Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland.

Her work has been featured in several books, including “Contemporary Art in the Northwest”, “100 Artists of the West Coast”, and “Selected Works of the Portland Art Museum”. Two monographs of her works have been published: “Field Notes, Photographs by Diane Kornberg 1992-2007” and “India Tigers 2009”. In 2014 “Madonna Comix,” a collaboration with poet Celia Bland, will be released.

TAKE-IN SCHEDULE–Photographers submitting their work are asked to bring it to the Center at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30. Up to four pieces may be entered; in the event of wall-space limitations (not expected but always possible) the photographs should be numbered to indicate the order of hanging preference.

Each piece should be framed or matted, but nothing elaborate or ornate is required.

TAKE-DOWN SCHEDULE–Participants will take the show down at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 3.
