From Leadership San Juan Islands

Leadership San Juan Islands (LSJI) is a county-wide program which fosters leadership skills such as facilitation, collaborative problem solving, and public speaking as well as the analysis of local systems related to governance, economics, social services, history and culture, education and the environment.  LSJI will hold three open house gatherings for community members interested in applying for the 2013 training. The five-month course begins in January and finishes in May. LSJI alumni and the public are invited to attend at any of the following locations and times:

October 18, 6:30-8:30 pm on Lopez Island: The Vineyard Tasting Room, 265 Lopez Rd.
October 25, 5-7 pm on San Juan Island:  Hushebeck Residence, 285 Geneste St. FH
October 28, 1-3 pm on Orcas Island: Heartwood House, 71 Langell Ln. 1-3pm

Multiple businesses and agencies across the county play an essential part in the success of the program. Individuals and organizations willing to offer fiscal support are encouraged to come and ask questions about the significance of the program for our county. Sponsorships can be provided to students in full, or in part, by an employer, a local nonprofit, or other community member.

The members of the 2013 executive committee are Gretchen Krampf, Jim Hooper, Steve Hushebeck, Morgan Meadows, Candace Jagel, Gary Franklin and Ron Zee. The Curriculum Committee designs and implements the program and is led by Linda Lyshall. Program Co-directors this year are Liz Illg and Tara Dalton.

Participants learn in a cohort setting through a series of challenge days and retreats. Applications are available as a download from the website. Deadline for submissions is November 19, 2012. For more information see: https://www.lsji.org
