— from Hilary Canty —

In the annual publication by Foundation Center’s cf Insights The Orcas Island Community Foundation (OICF) is ranked #1 nationally for “Most Gifts per Capita.” Gifts per Capita is calculated by dividing the foundation’s total gifts (including supporting organizations) by the population of the foundation’s service area.

“This amazing recognition is certainly the result of Bob Henigson’s legacy gifts,” said Director Hilary Canty. OICF ranked 21 nationally in ‘Active Grantmaking.’

Canty continued, “These ratings are recognition of the remarkable flow of philanthropic dollars through OICF and into the community. We are truly one of the most generous communities in the country. It is a sweet recognition as we celebrate Bob Lundeen—he and Bob Henigson certainly set a great tone!”

OICF will celebrate their annual Report to Community on Thursday, Sept 15 from 4:30 – 6:30pm at the Odd Fellow’s Hall. The theme for the gathering is ‘Building Community’ and OICF will honor Joyce Burghardt at this event. Joyce and her husband ran the Crescent Beach Resort and donated a portion of their property to the Land Bank, establishing a wonderful public approach to Eastsound. Burghardt also started the March of Dimes campaign and was a founding member of Eastsound Planning Review Committee (EPRC), OICF, and the Music Advocacy Group (MAG). She has quietly and consistently pitched in and helped shape the community we love.

In addition there will be displays on current building projects, including the Orcas Public Library, OPAL CLT, the Exchange, the School District, and the visioning project from Jim Jonasson and the EPRC. We hope you will join us.
