— from Mary Pugh for Orcas Island Library —

Today, no countries have open borders. Every state in today’s global system has its own laws and policies about who is permitted to cross its borders, and how they will do so. Who determines whether someone is a refugee or a migrant?

How have different countries, including the United States, reacted to migration? How effective are the international laws, policies, and organizations that have evolved to assist and protect refugees and migrants?

A limited amount of the series Briefing Books are available at the Library for $10. There is also a copy available for use only in the Library. Click here to download the 2019 schedule and details.

Join America’s largest discussion series and be part of a nation-wide, non-partisan program intended to broaden public understanding and involvement in foreign affairs by investigating a range of contemporary foreign and domestic policy issues.

Sponsored by Friends of the Orcas Island Library. For more information visit the Library’s website www.orcaslibrary.org.
