The San Juan County Canvassing Board met [Tuesday, Nov. 23] to certify the results of the 2010 General Election. In a close race, Jamie Stephens of Lopez defeated incumbent Bob Myhr, also of Lopez, for the District 6 Council seat. Eleven votes and 0.64% separate the two.

Though close, the results are far enough apart that no recount is required. Candidates are allowed to request recounts at their own cost, however, and Bob Myhr has elected to do so. The recount will be held on Monday, November 29, beginning at 9 am in the Elections office. Barring the unexpected, the Canvass Board will meet again at 8:30 am on Tuesday, November 30, to certify the recount.

No other races yielded any changes. The attempt to overturn the 2008 fireworks ban failed in a close race, with only 58 votes separating approval and rejection of the ordinance. Orcas Island Park & Recreation District’s levy measure received a significant majority (58.75%) of votes, but failed to reach the “super-majority” of 60% that is required for most levies.

Full local election results are posted in the San Juan County Elections website.
