The Indian Island Marine Health Observatory invites the public to join a technical seminar on microplastics in the marine environment at the Library on Saturday  June 4, at 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

What do we know about the chemical properties of different plastics, how plastics interact with toxics like detergent and pesticides, what effects have been observed in marine animals, and what locally-used products produce the most marine plastic debris?

WSU Beach Watchers and the Indian Island program have been sampling plastic debris on Eastsound beaches for the past few years in cooperation with the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. This seminar will help focus future study of marine plastics in East Sound by local volunteers and students.
