PROCLAMATION
In Celebration of a Life Well Lived
September 6, 2024
WHEREAS, Gary Boothman like many Town citizens cared about his community. Gary humbly began his public service career as an interested citizen who wanted to find solutions to make the Town a better place. He served as a Planning Commissioner which evolved into becoming a Town Councilmember from 1994-1998, and then aspired to becoming Mayor for the Town of Friday Harbor from 1999-2005; and
WHEREAS, Gary is remembered for his many contributions, particularly his “hands on” approach and commitment to make local government both friendly and approachable to Town citizens; and
WHEREAS, Gary’s innovative mind and visionary thinking will be fondly remembered by the residents, officials and employees of the Town. Gary was passionate and advocated for Town employees. The legacy of his support and dedication is seen today as the Town employee union continues to thrive ; and
WHEREAS, Gary, a craftsman at heart, has left his legacy as the artisan of the Council Chambers table; and
WHEREAS, Gary’s inspired actions have had an indelible influence on the Town. On behalf of the residents of Friday Harbor, our neighbors in San Juan County and the many people whose lives Gary touched over the years, we express our great sympathy and immense gratitude to Gary and his family, for all of his work in support of our community and having had such a lasting impact on the lives of those around him.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Raymont C. Jackson, by the virtue and authority vested in me as Mayor of Friday Harbor do hereby declare that it is my honor and privilege to proclaim today as
Mayor Gary G. Boothman Day
