At Obstruction Pass dock this morning, debris was floating in the water, blocking the forward, south end of the dock.

Concerned about the danger to navigation and wildlife, Caroline Buchanan of Obstruction Island, attempted to pull it out of the water. She found it was a continuous roll of netting about three feet wide, tightly woven.

After pulling out about 40 feet of the roll the end on the south side was stuck under the dock. The part of the roll that was off the end of the dock was wedged between the pilings and the dock.

At that point Caroline called the sheriff’s department and returned home. She says, “Hopefully the proper authorities will be able to free the rest of the roll and remove the hazard. If anyone has information as to who dumped this roll in the water, please contact the sheriff’s department.

Update at 5 p.m.: Buchanan noted that she had been in contact with the County Public Works/Road Department, and was told they plan to remove the debris on Thursday morning.
