Islanders with an interest in Friends (Unprogrammed Quakers) are warmly encouraged to join us (a local meditation group with Quaker leanings) Saturday, July 14, for 30 minutes of silence followed by 30 minutes of Quaker-style dialogue on the contemplation topic, “Listening in Tongues.”

This will be followed by an hour of tea and conversation with visiting Friend-in-Residence Benigno Sanchez-Eppler of New England Yearly Meeting of Friends. Sanchez-Eppler, who will speak at North Pacific Yearly Meeting of Friends this year on the topic “Listening in Tongues,” has been instrumental in building a “bridge of love” between New England and Cuban Friends.

The term “Listening in Tongues” has also been part of a conversation about creating rapport between Friends with radically different beliefs, such as Christocentric and nontheistic Friends.
